Regional charity formed in 1829 and based in the Great North Museum: Hancock, Newcastle. They manage Gosforth Park Nature Reserve and can arrange access to this site. The Society also has the best natural history library in the region which contains bird field guides from around the world. They also hold important natural history archives and own the specimen collections in the Great North Museum: Hancock. The Society focuses on the study of the natural sciences, providing talks, field outings and education courses and publishing scientific papers and “The Birds on the Farne Islands” annual report. They are also involved in carrying out nature conservation and research, mainly in Gosforth Park Nature Reserve and through their Bird Ringing Group.
