This weekend birdwatchers flocked to one of the counties, most beautiful country parks; Bolam Lake.\u00a0 At this time of year the trees are shedding their summer leaves, revealing a colourful autumn landscape.\u00a0 Over a hundred gathered in the hopes of catching a glimpse of a treasured rarity; an Eyebrowed Thrush<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 This rare vagrant usually winters in SE Asia and Indonesia, so to find one in the heart of Northumberland was a welcome surprise.<\/p>\n

The bird was discovered by \u2018Ross Moore<\/strong>\u2019 on Friday 4th November.\u00a0 Ross recognized, that this Thrush was very different to the local Thrushes.\u00a0 It was staying around some hawthorns in the Pheasant Meadow, not far from the West Wood and Main Car Parks.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately despite the best efforts of lots of enthusiastic birdwatchers, the bird was not re-located the following day.\u00a0 This was not surprising however, as Bolam Lake and the surrounding area, is a large area to cover and there was a large chance this special visitor had passed through or was sheltering from the constant rain showers, deep in the Country Park out of sight.<\/p>\n

Thankfully however, we also have Ross to thank a second time, as he was also able to take some amazing photos, which has allowed many others to also appreciate this major highlight for the county.<\/p>\n
