St. Mary’s – 16th January 2013

Today the wetland was all-but frozen but a small amount of open water held 6 Gadwall,2 Wigeon and 22 Teal. A high count of 70 Snipe gathered to roost and in the adjacent field ,yesterdays count of 13 Pink Feet had risen to 17. Also in the fields were good numbers of Meadow Pipits and Skylarks, around 50 of each,with 10 Reed Buntings. A Great Spotted Woodpecker flew over the fields. On the rocks and beach 10 Rock pipits noted ,a Grey Wagtail and more Meadow Pipits.

Waders included over 200 Redshanks, 27 Turnstones, a single Knot and 16 Purple Sands. A Red throated Diver seen on the sea.

In Holywell Dene a Dipper noted and Nuthatch and Treecreeper.
