8th January 2014

Out to Druridge Bay today starting at East Chevington.  A lone female Common Scoter was unusual for North Pool , maybe the same individual as recently at Druridge Pools. Walked through to Druridge Bay CP and three Long-tailed Ducks present but no Scaup. Next was Cresswell Pond and a Great Crested Grebe had to be the highlight as scarce normally in January. Offshore from Cresswell Ices was an impressive number of Red-throated Divers. Janet managed to score the most on her scope turn with 41. Had a  look for the three Greenland White-fronted Geese without success at Woodhorn. A welcome surprise though was a Short-eared Owl quartering the Ash lagoon embankment visible from the old windmill. Finally a stop at Bothal Pond revealed little. TRD/JD
